Business Ideas: Stock Photography

Business Ideas: Stock Photography

Do you want to start a business you can work at at home but just don't know what to do or where to start. If you have an interest in photography this might be the one for you.

Getting Started

Here is one that doesn’t take a lot of cash to get started doing (around $1000) and if photography is a passion, you might a well make some money with it. The best part is, you don’t have to leave your house if you don’t want to. Simply think small. Set up a white backdrop that can sit on your kitchen floor or dining room table. If you do not have lights you can use your household lamps to get started. You will need a tripod and if you want to shoot really macro shots, a decent lens. Now start taking photos of everyday household objects. Graphic and web designers are always in need of photos of everything you can imagine. Being one, I know.

Items to Photograph

There are so many objects that a designer might need a photo of. Just remember always shoot on a white background so the item can easily be removed from the background in Photoshop. Here are some ideas to get you started: fruit, vegetables, cheese and other food products, blank packaging (wine/beer bottles, t-shirts, carboard boxes etc.,), books, interesting textures, glassware, silverware, tools, money, arts and craft items, toys, old/vintage collectibles. That should be enough to get you started.

Other Benefits

If you are already a photography this is a good way to increase the number of photos in your portfolio. That and taking all these product shots means you can do the same for local business. It could open a whole new market for you. Another benefit is the exposure. Having your work online can open doors and drive traffic and work to your door.

Other photography opportunities

If you have the camera and know how to use it you might as well do other types of photography. Things like, wedding photography, product photography, baby photos, portraits, you get the idea.

Selling Stock Photos

There are many sites to sell stock photos.
