The new site is up and almost finished. Still a few bugs, a lot of tweaking to do and a few old pages still hanging around. I've also has a few posts published at other blogs around the web, so I've put together a little list of those.
So here is a sneak peak at what I put together yesterday. What I was thinking may be the new design for Couchable. My other design got deleted so I figured I'd try something a lot different.
My hard drive crashed in Sunday and I have been computerless all week.
Spent a lot of Sunday trying to diagnose the problem, ending up figuring out it was in fact the hard drive. Went in to the only place in my town on Monday to get it fixed, they were closed for renovations all week. Tuesday at lunch I went to the only other place where I could get it fixed in another town. Repair guy wasn’t in, left it for overnight. Of course upon checking it out they said “Yup needs a new hard drive”, which they didn’t have and had to order, and they didn’t order it next-day. So I really had some work that needed to get done, so I ordered an 11” Macbook Air on Amazon for next-day delivery. My credit card somehow thought it was a fraudulent purchase and canceled the order, twice. Finally, got that resolved today but I don’t think the order will go through until tomorrow so it may not get shipped and consequently not be here until Monday.
And with my luck it will require a signature, and I will not be home. So either I get my Macbook Pro back or my new Macbook Air sometime next week. Not sure what else could go wrong to further delay me writing more posts here at this blog.
Oh yah, I didn’t backup the new web design for this site so that is gone. But I came up with another design (on a piece of paper) which personally I think may look better and I’ll start laying that out whenever I can do it.
For all the great thing that happened in the web design world this year, there are some that I would rather see stay in 2011. Some were new, while others were remnants of the past that just don't have any purpose anymore.
When I built this blog I put the design together in under a day. Partially, because I was impatient and partially because I didn't know what content I wanted to have.
So now that I have a couple of days off (horray for the holidays!) and I have a bit of content, I’ve started working on the design again. I am not starting completely over. The colors will be the same, and the layout will be the same. Just sprucing things up a bit. Right now I am focusing on the header area and the navigation which you can see a bit of below.
My biggest concern is with making navigation that is actually useful. I’ve always planned on breaking the site out into several sub-blogs or areas, by category, and the new design will work that in.
Wow it seems like only yesterday, I started this project. I continue to experiment and have learned a lot, even in just two short months of blogging here. Traffic has been steadily climbing and although I may be short of my initial goals, I am still making significant progress.
Well, 2011 is winding down, and for web designers, it has been a pretty good year. Here are some of the good things that happened this year and a little bit about what is going to be happening in 2012.
So I finally got around to adding two new content types to the site: News and Tips.
News will be quick posts or blurbs about the various topics I cover here on this blog, interesting resources or posts I’ve found elsewhere that I feel you would want to read, or news about this site. Tips are quick, little, useful bits of information that might not need an entire post to themselves.
Both Tips and News will appear on the main page but some will be Category specific. Like say I create an ExpressionEngine Tip, it might not be relevant to the entire audience of this blog so it will be on EE pages only. It really just depends on if I feel it is relevant to everyone or a specific audience but they can all be found on the individual Tips or News pages.
Happy turkey day everyone! If you are not in the States I apologize. It isn't fun being left out of the festivities. In any case hope everyone is having a glorious day with friends and family. Eating, drinking, gambling and watching football in excess and total abandon.
So instead of publishing a post on Fridays, I've decided to create a collection of useful links, videos and other fun stuff to inspire, from around the web. This includes a broad array of content: some lighthearted and fun, some inspirational, and some being useful tidbits of information.
